5fm radio jock, Gareth Cliff Voiced his opinions about the late & former health minister on Twitter... saying "Manto is dead. Good. A selfish and wicked bungler of the lowest order. Rotten attitude and rancid livers – all three of them."!! His opinion is landing him in hot water as the ANCYL demands an apology from him about the statements he made on Twitter. Public figures around South Africa have not taken this lightly... "“The comments are viewed as an undignified and hateful onslaught on a great contributor to democracy in South Africa and beyond."
We feel that Gareth should apologise and be suspended from radio as he is a public figure who people look up to and take note of what he says...!! Is this how a late Minister should be remembered!!?
RIP Minister Mantu Tshabalala-Msimang...!!

Twitter hacked

For those trying to get on to the Twitter website presently, one need not bother: a group calling itself the Iranian Cyber Army claims to have hacked the site.
Users on the micro-blogging service were presented with a new home page, apparently protesting the United States.
The new home page emerged at 6 a.m. GMT today.
In the poorly translated English, there is an odd reference to an embargo list, and that the hackers were against the Iranian people being stimulated. The hackers gave the address of iranian.cyber.army@gmail.com.
This publication will hold back on Tweeting till the hacking problem is resolved.
It marks an already difficult week on Twitter. Twitter application Twitterfeed had a data migration, leaving many users with a reduced service.

Ghetto Glam: Nthato Mashishi Interview

Nthato Mashishi a renowned celebrity make-up artist and stylist to stars such as Basetsana Khumalo, Nhlanhla Nciza, and some international celebrities including Kelly Rowland and John Legend. Nthato is also an ambassador for Iman cosmetic’s, this is one of the many achievements in Nthato’s resume, which also includes make-up and styling for Top Billing, True Love, Drum and Marie Claire. He has also worked on CD covers for Malaika and has been at it for years.

Nthato Mashishi’s love for making people look hot started long before he finished school, after he matriculated he did a one year cosmetology course, but his dad didn’t approve of him being a style and make-up artist and told him to go study something that will have value. Nthato went on to obtain a diploma in Human Resource. After that he signed up for an eight-week make-up course with Black Like Me, that’s where he was spotted by the Yizo Yizo 1 producer. Where his first assignment came and he was also assigned to do the make-up for Thembi Seete’s video shoot.

In 2002 he registered with professional Bookings now called Shine agency, when he joined he realised that he was one of two black people at the agency, the other being Faith a woman that Nthato looked up to and draws his inspiration from.

In 2003 he was booked for a cover shoot for Basetsana Khumalo, she then asked him to come and work with her on Top Billing. The following year he was approached by Nhlanhla Nciza to do her makeup for Mafikizolo’s Kwela CD sleeve . ”in 2006 she told me about her solo album and also asked me to help create a new image for her, I also helped with her clothing range.”

Did you immediately start freelancing or did you first get experience by working for someone?

Nthato:

No it started at home doing peoples hair and I worked at a salon on weekends because I was still in school.

How long did it take you to build a good reputation that you have and become well established in the make-up and style industry?

Nthato:

I’d love to say I am a work in progress. I believe that I am paving the way for other people, I had to break through a lot boundaries whether it racial or gender, I had to fight I’m still fighting. I worked hard and made sure I do my best all the time at whatever I am doing, so I’d say I created noise with my work.

There is no job security, why freelance?

Nthato:

To tell you the honest truth freelancing is not easy, it depends who you are and what you want. The reason why I freelance is because I believe in what I do and I keep evolving so I do not need a job to tie me down. Everything is about you when you freelance: your name, your brand and your reputation.

What crazy or out of the ordinary thing have you done to get work?

Nthato:

I went and bought myself designer gear and a Land Rover all for the sake of my image and so that people can take me serious.

Any de-motivating or demoralising setbacks you can recall?

Nthato:

Ag man there is nothing think about for now but I can say is that we are over worked and under paid. The people in this industry are very disrespectful and we are not appreciated.

What about your work still stimulate you to do the good quality of work you are known for?

Nthato:

It’s my passion and passion for what I do.

Between make-up work and fashion and style which is your love and passion?

Nthato:

I have so much love for fashion and styling, but my passion is hair and make-up.

I am a typical example of what Ghetto Glam is. I’m the definition of a new trend “fabulosity” it’s a global thing. You take hot in the ghetto and mix it up with the glam that comes with the industry.

How was growing up in the hood for you?

Nthato:

Growing up in Alexandra is everything to me, all the dreams and possibilities. It’s what I know and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The hood shaped me into the person you see today. A life in the hood is filled with a lot dreams .

There I was at a braai with friends just chilling eating, chatting and listening to some nice music. This song played and everyone just went mad. I asked for the name of the song, they told me “Alex Freaks” produced by Scoudy. So I did my research and this is what I came up with: he is from Alexandra and well known for being one of the very few boys to go into the army. On the other hand DJ’s from the area are going head over hills for his the tracks he produced. If you don’t believe the hype you can listen to the new DJ Vatkoek versus Mahoota album, disk 2 tracks: 10 and 13.

Occupation: Soldier by day and producer by night.

Education: Matriculated at North view High School, and then went to the army to do my infantry training

Relationship status: taken

Family: I’m the last born of three brothers and blessed to have been raised by both parents.

Spare time: I chill with the gents but most of the time I’m with my girlfriend.

Do you relate...!?

Our parents were born in the dusty streets of ekasi. Life wasn’t so good for them, yet they never stopped dreaming. Some of their dreams are and will be lived through us. We are also born ekasi, and there is no other place we would rather be. This place is filled with so much hope and many dreams that keeps our souls alive and burning with fire. Ekasi, we live glamorously even with the little we have. We our celebrities, our professionals, our learners and students, and we never stop trying to become bigger than the situations we are in. Even when we make it big we always come back to ekasi because there is no place like this. People are always happy to see you and you know that there is always someone you can uplift and that on its own is a big legacy. GHETTO GLAM is the street lights, the passion and hope in the people’s hearts in the GHETTO and love we give each other. Now that’s Glamorous!

Renaming of roads in Alexandra township

So we were used to Rossevelt, Selbourne, Ruth, Hofmeyer, john brandt, n da lot... well these are no more. the main roads in Alexandra were renamed after Alexandrians who were apart of the struggle... This we really liked because how could a black township have street names named after people who were against or not even part of our clan (Black Township People).... no offence though. The problem is that the people were so accustomed to the old names people dont even use the new names.

Alexandra Heritage Centre

The Alexandra heritage Centre was started to pay tribute to Fmr. President Nelson Mandela... as it is based at a house he used to live in. Due to financial problems with the contractors (misuse of funds) the Heritage Centre isnt completed... Its Been about 5years and still not done. It is a disgrace as the Centre is in honour of the person who lead us to our democracy as a nation.
